BREIF HISTORY

The Federal Polytechnic Ede is a Nigerian tertiary institution that came into existence in the year 1992 and it is located at Ede, Osun State. It is Higher National Diploma (HND) and National Diploma (ND) awarding institution.

The Polytechnic took over the old Baptist Teachers College from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) which served as the Orientation Camp for the Corps members. This was achieved with the cooperation of Ede North Local Government and Osun State Ministry of Education.

The Federal Polytechnic Ede, History, Objectives, Vision & Mission

The responsibility for establishing and planning the take-off of the Polytechnic was vested in the Task Force committee constituted by the Federal Ministry of Education and headed by Engr. Musa Abdullahi. In October 1992, interview for Senior Staff was conducted at the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) office, Ibadan, by the task force.

With the arrival of the Pioneer Rector, Cheif Jimi Bamgbose from the United States of America, the Polytechnic took off properly in January 1993 and this subsequently paved way for the admission of 847 students (pioneer students) on 13th April, 1993.

Objectives

OBJECTIVES OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

General Objectives:

To provide technical and practical oriented training to meet the manpower requirements for the industrial, agricultural, commercial and economic development of Nigeria.

Specific Objectives:

  • To provide full-time and part-time courses of instruction and training for students in Technology, Applied Science, Commerce and Management, and other fields of Applied learning relevant to the needs of the development of Nigeria.
  • To conduct research and provide consultancy services in the fields listed in one above.
  • To organize conferences, seminars and workshops at which the results of research activities are disseminated.

Vision Statement:

A just, informed, dynamic, disciplined, resourceful institution committed to transforming lives of individuals, producing multilevel technical manpower and advancing management, scientific and technological frontiers in conducive learning, teaching and research environment.

Mission Statement

The Federal Polytechnic Ede is a technological institution engaged in education, research and training targeted at sustainable development of the nation.

Functions of the Polytechnic

1. To provide full-time or part-time courses of instructions and training in:

  • Technology, Applied Science, Commerce and Management, and
  • Such other fields of applied learning relevant to the needs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the areas of Industrial and Agricultural Production, Distribution and Research in the development and adoption of techniques, as the Academic Board and the Council may from time to time determine

2. To arrange conferences, seminars and study group relative to the field of learning specified in paragraph one above.

3. To perform such other functions as in the opinion of the Council which may serve to promote the objectives of the Polytechnic.

Academic Schools, Federal Polytechnic Ede

ACADEMIC SCHOOLS IN FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

The Federal Polytechnic Ede has five main schools through which it administers its academic programmes at both the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma levels. The schools are headed by a DEAN whose rank is not less than a Chief Lecturer from amongst the Departments that makes up the School.

The Schools (with the exception of School of Part-time and Development studies) also have a School Board which sees to the administrative and academic running of the Schools. Members of the Schools Board are Chief Lecturers, Head of Departments, Principal Lecturers with responsibilities and in some cases Cheif Instructors and Chief Technologists with the DEAN as Chairman.

DEPARTMENTS

1. SCHOOL OF APPLIED SCIENCES (SAS)

The School of Applied Sciences (SAS) presently comprises of seven (7) departments. Each department has a substantial departmental head. Of all the seven departments, four (4) of them runs both ND and HND programmes while two (2) runs only ND programme with the exception of basic studies department. All programmes offered in the School of Applied Sciences are NBTE approved.

2. SCHOOL OF BUSINESS STUDIES (SBS)

The School of Business Studies (SBS) presently comprises of seven (7) departments. All the other six departments graduate students either from National Diploma or Higher National Diploma programmes or both with the exception of the General Studies department that does not admit students. Each department has a substantial departmental head. All programmes offered in the School of Business Studies are NBTE approved.

The goals and objectives of the School of Business Studies are as follows:

To produce diplomates with sound theoretical and practical knowledge to carry out a number of activities in businesss concerns and public institutioms effectively
To train and lead students to the acquisition of effective technical skills, and work competence as well as to equip students with Office Technology and Management skills for employment in diverse fields of human endeavours including being self-employed after graduation
To produce a technical level manpower that can effectively perform a range of functions in the field of accountancy, insurance, administration, banking and financial institutions.

3. SCHOOL OF ENVIRONMENTAL STUDIES (SES)

The School of Environmental Studies (SES) presently comprises of five (5) departments. Each department has a substantial departmental head. Of the five departments, four (4) of them runs both ND and HND programmes while only (1) runs only ND programme i.e. Department of Surveying and Geo-informatics. Management Team, Federal Polytechnic Ede

PRINCIPAL OFFICERS OF FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

By the Federal Polytechnic Act, the Management is responsible for the day-to-day running of the Polytechnic. The Management Team of Federal Polytechnic Ede is made up of six distinct officers with different functions and responsibilities. The Rector of the Polytechnic is the Head of the Management Team and the Chief Executive of the Polytechnic. Members of the Management team of Federal Polytechnic Ede include:

  • The Rector,
  • Deputy Rector Academics,
  • Deputy Rector Administration,
  • Registrar,
  • Bursar and
  • Polytechnic Librarian

THE RECTOR

THE RECTOR is the Chief Executive of the Polytechnic and is charged with responsibility for matters relating to the day-to-day management operations of the polytechnic. Only Chief Lecturers of the Polytechnic with over fiver years experience as a Chief Lecturer is qualified to apply for the position of the Rector. The President of the Federal Republic on the recommendation of the screening committee appoints the Rector for a four-year term which is renewable for another final and second term of four years subject to good performance.

RECTOR, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

Dr. Prince Adekolawole John Taiwo is the fifth Rector of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Formerly known as Edaogbogun, Dr. Adekolawole J. T. holds a PhD degree of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile Ife, Nigeria with a bias in Satellite Meteorologgy, Infrared Remote Sensing and Instrumentation.

Sequel to his appointment as the Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Dr. Adekolawole has been involved in design and development of radiometers for satellite based earth observations, aside teaching, adaptive research and development in Physics with Electronics in the Polytechnic Education System amongst other services, which include administrative duties, across the country for more than 25 years since graduation.

Before his appointment as Rector, Federal Polytechnic Ede, in November, 2017, Dr. J. T. Adekolawole was the Director Quality and Assurance of the Federal Polytechnic Ede. He has also served as the Director, Science and Technology, Director, Academic Planning and Pioneer Director / Dean, School of Applied Sciences of the Federal Polytechnic Ede.

THE DEPUTY RECTOR ACADEMICS

THE DEPUTY RECTOR ACADEMICS is charged with assisting the Rector in the performance of his academic related functions. The Deputy Rector Academics acts in the place of the Rector when the post of Rector is vacant or if the Rector is for any reason absent or unable to perform his functions as Rector. The Deputy Rector Academics is appointed by the Governing Council from among Chief Lecturers in the Polytechnic and serves a term of two years renewable for another final and second term.

DEPUTY RECTOR ACADEMICS, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

Engr. Dr. Petinrin Joseph O. is the sixth Deputy Rector Academics of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Rector Academics, Engr. Dr. Petinrin J. O. was the Dean, School of Engineering Studies and Coordinator, Innovation and Technology Centre. He has also held several administrative positions such as Director, SIWES.

As the Deputy Rector Academics, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, Engr. Dr. Petinrin J. O. is tasked with assisting the Rector in the performance of his academics related functions and where the Rector for any reason whatsoever is unavaiable, he is expected to act in the capacity of the Rector for matters relating to the day-to-day management and operations of the polytechnic academics.

THE DEPUTY RECTOR ADMINISTRATION

THE DEPUTY RECTOR ADMINISTRATION is charged with assisting the Rector in the performance of his administrative related functions. Like his counterpart, the Deputy Rector Admin can act in the place of the Rector when both the Deputy Rector Academics and the Rector are vacant or for any reason absent or unable to perform their functions. The Deputy Rector Admin is appointed by the Governing Council from among Chief Lecturers in the Polytechnic and serves a term of two years renewable for another final and second term.

DEPUTY RECTOR ADMINISTRATION, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

Administrative Building

Alh. Adelabu Isiaka T. is the fourth Deputy Rector Administration of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Prior to his appointment as Deputy Rector Administration, Alh. Adelabu I. T. was the Dean, Student Affairs and has held several administrative positions.

As the Deputy Rector Administration, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, Alh. Adelabu I. T. is tasked with assisting the Rector in the performane of his administrative related functions and where the Rector for any reason whatsoever is unavaiable, he is expected to act in the capacity of the Rector for matters relating to the day-to-day administrative management and operations of the polytechnic.

THE REGISTRAR

THE REGISTRAR is responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administrative of the polytechnic and performs other duties assigned by the Governing Council. The Registrar is appointed by the Council from amongst Deputy Registrars of the Polytechnic and shall hold office for a period of five years which can be renewed for a final and second term of five years subject to satisfactory performance.

REGISTRAR, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

Mr. Agboola Isiaka Tunji is the fifth Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Until his appointment, Mr. Agboola I. T. was a Deputy Registrar, Alumni and Endowment Officer at the Federal Polytechnic, Offa.

As the Registrar, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, Mr. Agboola I. T. is tasked with the day-to-day administration of the polytechnic and performs other duties as may be assigned by the Rector and Governing Council. Mr. Agboola I. T. in his capacity as the Registrar is the Secretary to the Council, the Academic Board and any committee of the Council.

THE BURSAR

THE BURSAR is the Cheif Financial Officer of the Polytechnic and is responsible to the Rector for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the Polytechnic. The Governing Council appoints the Bursar for a period of five years which can be renewed for a final and second term of five years subject to satisfactory performance.

Mr. Olagunju Caleb Olanrewaju is the third Bursar of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Until his appointment, Mr. Olagunju C. O. was the chief Accountant, Head, Planning & Budget Division at the Federal Polytechnic, Ede

As the Bursar, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, Mr. Olagunju C. O. is tasked with the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the Polytechnic. As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Polytechnic, he is responsible to the Rector and the Governing Council.

THE POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN

THE POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN is responsible to the Rector for the administration of the Polytechnic Library and the co-ordination of the Library services in the teaching units of the Polytechnic. The Librarian is appointed by the Polytechnic Governing Council for a period of five years and can have the appointment renewed for a final and second term of five years subject to satisfactory performance.

POLYTECHNIC LIBRARIAN, FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC EDE

Dr. Egunjobi Rotimi Adesina is the fourth Librarian of the Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria. Until his appointment, Dr. Egunjobi R. A. was the former University Librarian at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko.

As the Polytechnic Librarian, Federal Polytechnic Ede, Osun State, Nigeria, Dr. Egunjobi R. A. is tasked with the administration of the Polytechnic Library and the co-ordination of the library services in the teaching units of the polytechnic. He is responsible to the Rector and the Governing Council.
